Hi, hello, happy summer. I wanted to share that I’m teaching a virtual creative writing class this summer through Rutgers’ Cooper Street Workshops on writing flash nonfiction rooted in the ordinary moments of our lives.
Ordinary moments are the ones that make up most of our lives, yet we don’t always feel they’re worthy of writing about. In short pieces of nonfiction known as flash, writers can zoom in on little moments and make meaning of them within 750 words. A morning making pancakes, the receipt of an email, a drive with a sibling—these can all be rich with significance.
In this workshop, we’ll learn the key craft elements of writing flash nonfiction based on ordinary moments and generate the beginnings of our own flash pieces.
You can learn more and sign up here.
Hope to see you there! Or at one of the very cool workshops my friends are teaching this summer - Writing the Past, Memoir Writing as Resistance, Using Mindful Self-Compassion to Empower Your Writing.
With care,
Eryn
