How do you deal with rejection around your creative work?
Everyone says that rejection is a huge part of being a writer and artist. There are endless things to try to do (I won’t pretend to know what visual artists are up to, but for writers: pitches, litmag submissions, queries, book submissions, residencies, fellowships, and more), creating endless opportunities for acceptance, and of course, rejection.
Early on, I heard somewhere that the writers who publish are the ones who withstand getting rejected over and over again. I really believe that’s true, and also, being rejected can feel really bad.
This past week the perfect storm of family things + a few creative rejections + my period got me down bad, and I went scouring the web for encouragement for creatives dealing with rejection.
Here are some of my favorite things I found. And please do share how you cope with rejection, favorite words about dealing with rejection, etc. in the comments!
